This
short talk will discuss an approach to designing tutorial classes which
encourage students to consider data sources which are most suited to their
usual methods of information gathering and communication. The idea is to
encourage students to apply and understand taught theory by assimilating
related information from sources such as YouTube videos, websites, blogs, and
news articles, which relate to relevant scenarios within contemporary
organisations. A specific example of the organisation 'TaskRabbit' will be
discussed. Public information relating to this organisation, such as media
and web content, can be used to demonstrate real life experiences of the
flexible firm, the gig economy, changing employment trends, and the changing
nature of work, by encouraging students to analyse, among other sources the
views of the organisation’s own employees.
