In this one-hour workshop, the founders of CHILD studio will share their story of starting a video production company as recent graduates without external funding or investment. They’ll outline the steps they took to bring in work, build a client base and grow their business independently.
Facilitator BioCHILD studio is an independent, multi-disciplinary production company based in London specialising in music videos, documentary and fashion films. CHILD studio’s focus is to collaborate with artists, brands, institutions, labels, individuals and collectives to create exciting and inspiring visual work. Recent clients have included XL Recordings, Young Turks, NTS Radio, Stella McCartney, Touching Bass, The Serpentine, V&A, Brownswood Recordings, Ninja Tune and Warp Records.
The company is co-run by Josh Renaut and Tayo Rapoport, who also co-direct under the alias 'CHILD'. Both are multi-skilled creatives experienced in producing, directing, cinematography, photography, sound recording and editing, which has allowed them to grow CHILD studio organically and independently from the ground up. Josh and Tayo met through mutual connections in London’s burgeoning jazz scene in 2016 and with shared interests in music, art, politics and people they started CHILD studio just one week later. The company’s ethos rooted itself firstly in what they make: artistically driven or socially conscious work, where creativity is the key focus; and secondly in how they make it: supporting and diversifying their creative network, nurturing younger talent, sharing skills and experience, and developing production processes that minimise the impact on the environment.
