Have you found that students you
teach on your research modules/projects are unaware of the potential use and transferability of their research skill set to their own future-focused or careers research? Are you worried that talented students from underrepresented groups will not develop to their full future potential by not making the best use of opportunities at King’s? That was the case for Dr Helen Coulshed, Lecturer
in Chemical Education. Working collaboratively with King’s Careers &
Employability to co-create an approach that enabled third-year research
undergrads to use their empathy and evaluative judgement to design career
‘next steps’ for an NMES student.
We present a flexible model for use at any stage in the curriculum to
develop career-related competencies that students need to master to navigate
both the start and the continuation of their journey beyond King’s.
